WLAN | |
| WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network) has a longer range than Bluetooth and utilises the same 2.4MHz band as cordless telephones. This band allows you to make a wireless connection to a local network or alternatively to the Internet. It is the wireless equivalent of Ethernet or LAN (Local Area Network). |
 | Increasingly places such as cafés, airports and shopping centres are introducing WLAN technology into their buildings, these are known as ‘hotspots’. You can also create a wireless network in your home by using a wireless router. |
With a WLAN wireless broadband connection, at home, work or out and about, the possibilities are endless. A wireless home would allow you to you to surf the Web at broadband speed in the bedroom, read your emails in the kitchen, play online games in the living room or send an instant message to your friends whilst sat in the garden. You may also be able to connect to your company’s network wirelessly from home via the Web.
In order to increase access to this fabulous technology, Intel Centrino processors have built-in WLAN transceivers. Therefore, any notebook with an Intel Centrino processor will allow the user to access such services and hotspots. Fujitsu Siemens Computers AMILO range of notebooks have Intel Centrino technology and are all WLAN enabled. |
