Disk or tape backup? The argument is over

A new version of the CentricStor Virtual Tape Appliance (VTA) enables intelligent data backup to either disk or tape. The system not only addresses the acute pain points that data protection managers have – it also delivers the industry’s largest back-up capacities.

CentricStor VTA Version 4 has been developed specifically to address three major storage issues:

  • Continued growth in data volumes
  • Data retention periods becoming even longer
  • The need to establish a second data center for greater levels of disaster tolerance

The VTL cache can scale up to a massive one petabyte, and the number of logical volumes that can be processed in one system has been increased from 500,000 to 1,500,000.

The combined disk and tape backup operation means that users can define what information should automatically be retained on disk and what information should be saved from disk to tape, making data backup more flexible than ever.

Customers can match data attributes to their current data protection requirements – Information Lifecycle Management criteria, such as data importance and recovery times, are incorporated into the back-up process.

Fujitsu Siemens Computers has also bolstered CentricStor by offering enhanced proactive services, such as Live Monitoring and Health Check.
