Global storage

Fail-safe data warehouse and web applications

If excessively long response times arise during periods of peak loads (despite the efficient processing of BS000/OSD mainframes), the source of the problem is usually data access bottlenecks. Our answer: non-volatile global storage (GSP), a system extension for higher-end BS2000/OSD business servers.

GSP drastically improves throughput and access to performance-critical data, even in comparison to disk systems with cache, since read and write access operations take place at near-CPU speed. GSP is employed like a disk and, with disk access buffer (DAB), as a high-speed read and write cache for files. Around-the-clock system stability and data availability are guaranteed by the redundant hardware components and battery. And since modified data no longer needs to be saved to the disk, another marked performance improvement over main memory caching is possible.

Robust fail safety and disaster recovery capabilities can be achieved by linking several BS2000/OSD servers with GSP using fiber optic cables at distances of up to 70m. This enables optimal use of shared data and speeds up recoveries considerably, since administrative data is also kept in GSP. It thus contributes significantly to cost-effective BS2000/OSD operation when high transaction rates and thousands of simultaneous users make continuous operation a must.
