BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0 offers the support for new hardware and functional enhancements in the areas of scalability, availability, manageability and openness. Major functional enhancements in BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0 relate to:
New Hardware
Server support:
Business Servers S165 und S200
BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0 is the first BS2000/OSD version to support the SX series business servers with SPARC64 architecture
Peripherals support: Fibre Channel connectivity on S series servers is provided for the first time. Connection of Symmetrix disk subsystems, of the CentricStor Virtual Tape Appliance and of the High-speed Net Connect HNC-IV to S series business servers via the FC channel type is possible with the OS supplementary version BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0C
Enhanced Scalability
Support for files / volumes larger than 32 Gigabyte
Annual percentage growth in the higher two-digit range continues to be observed in the data sector. This growth has an impact on file size and ultimately on the size of the physical storage systems. With the release of BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0, the BS2000 operating system therefore supports files and volumes with capacities up to 4000 GB (4 TB).
For SX servers, the SPARC64 architecture ported BS2000/OSD-BC V5.0 variant is available as a part of the OSD Extended Configuration Package version OSD/XC V1.2
