| | Xprint-Windows Server 2000/2003 |
Is the porting of Reliant Unix Xprint to Pentium-based hardware using Windows as the software platform |
Xprint on NT/W2K expands the Fujitsu Siemens Computers "Enterprise Printing" concept. Due to the development of Xprint on NT V4.0 Server, the entire NT environment is integrated into the Xprint domain and therefore part of the "Enterprise Printing Organization". This solution refers to Windows NT/W2K Server. This provides a framework which includes Reliant UNIX, BS2000/OSD-DPRINT, SAP R/3 Systems, MS Windows, additional UNIX systems and offers a link to other spool systems. The network-wide architecture of the spool system enables distributed print services to be organized in the network, providing coverage across all Windows systems and serving a number of printers. The hosts in the network can be grouped to form Xprint domains, representing a distinct administrative domain. Each domain forms a xprint cluster characterized by a “single image view”, “single point of administration” and the use of the consolidated resources. The Xprint cluster forms a network of Windows systems, Reliant UNIX systems and other UNIX systems on which Xprint runs. This couples printing resources to be used more efficiently and matched to customer specific requirements. |
The concept of the gateway opens up access to other spool systems, permitting free exchange of print jobs and specific administration commands between different print domains.
Of importance is the Xprint-GUI graphical user interface which provides a simple means of monitoring and configuring computers, printers and print jobs in the spool domain.
