NetWorker DiskBackup Option

Accelerated backup and recovery

The NetWorker DiskBackup Option is a valuable complement for traditional tape-based data protection strategies. It allows data to be simultaneously written to and read from the backup disk, enabling fast recoveries and faster completion of staging and cloning operations. Once a saveset has been written to disk, it can be automatically migrated (staging) or copied (cloning) to tape/disk while other savesets are still being backed up. Staging and cloning operations are completed in a fraction of the time required for traditional tape backups, since they lag behind the backup of the last saveset only – and not the entire save group.

Faster and user-friendly
Users not only have the tools to backup and recover at disk speed (as opposed to tape speed), but also profit from simultaneously backing up multiple clients to the same disk device without sacrificing recovery performance. Tape mounting and demounting delays are eliminated. When staging or cloning, data is written to tape sequentially at tape drive streaming rates for faster restoration. The DiskBackup Option also reduces wear and tear on expensive tapes by, for example, performing incremental backups on disk and complete backups on tape.

Automated data management
Regardless of whether backups are conducted on a single disk, staged to tape, or cloned to tape, NetWorker tracks all backup locations to ensure data can be recovered directly to a client in one step, NetWorker's advanced DiskBackup Option automatically removes aborted, incomplete or expired backups from the disk, ensuring the best utilization of backup capacity and reduced administrative overhead.
