Sharing your media in the home

Follow me TV™ is a revolutionary new solution that makes it easy to enjoy music, movies and television viewing anywhere in your home. All you need is a server on which to store all your movies, music, photos and so on, a home network (wired or wireless, the choice is yours) and a display or monitor in each room in which you want to enjoy home entertainment.

What makes Follow me TV™ unique is that you can stop watching a TV program in one room and continue watching it in another room – without missing a single scene!

Once connected to your home network (over a wireline wired or wireless router), the ACTIVY Media Center 570 communicates via its integrated UPnP server with all other media devices in your home. UPnP technology allows suitably enabled devices to locate each other, learn about each other's capabilities and – most important of all – see what content each has to share with the others. The ACTIVY Media Center 570 standing in your living room (or wherever) can stream any shared media in parallel over the network to different display media devices around your home. So your daughter can watch a soap on her TV set via an ACTIVY Media Player 150 in her bedroom while your son listens to pop music on a SCALEO PC in the spare room – and while you listen to classical music on an AMILO notebook in the garden.

Yes, you can. If someone is already watching TV in the living room, say, and you want to watch a different program, follow this simple procedure: Activate Follow me TV™ over the remote control and go to any other room where you have a second TV or display connected over an ACTIVY Media Player 150. As soon as you select the Follow me TV™ program in the other room, the ACTIVY Media Center 570 streams your program over the network to the ACTIVY Media Player 150 and the connected display where you are now. So you can start watching from the beginning, time shift, or jump forward or back, just as you already can on your ACTIVY Media Center 570.

If it is getting late and you want to finish watching a movie in bed, or if you have an important phone call to make – or simply other things that require your attention – the procedure is exactly the same. That is the joy of Follow me TV™. Your viewing enjoyment adapts to your rhythm, not the other way round. You can even switch rooms without switching channels!

No problem. Simply open the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) on the ACTIVY Media Center 570 and select Follow me TV™ for one of the programs. (You do, of course, have to decide who gets to stay in the living room!) One of you can then go to another room and resume the Follow me TV™ recording while the other one continues watching TV from the sofa.

In the room where you are now, open the Electronic Program Guide (EPG) on the ACTIVY Media Center 570, select Follow me TV™ for the program you are watching, switch off the TV and send the media center to sleep by pressing the power button on the remote control. Now simply go upstairs - or wherever else you have another TV set or display with a connected ACTIVY Media Player 150 - and resume the Follow me TV™ recording. Follow me TV™ makes sure that the program "waits" for you – you will not miss a second of the action! When the movie is over, you can even remotely deactivate the ACTIVY Media Center 570 downstairs.

All media data, recordings etc. that are stored on an ACTIVY Media Center 570 can be streamed to any room that has an ACTIVY Media Player 150 with a connected TV or display, to any SCALEO PC, or AMILO notebook connected to your home network.

All data stored on your server is perfectly safe. The default configuration for your router prevents any UPnP-based Internet traffic from interfering with your home network. Only UPnP media player equipment connected directly to your home network can access the media and data stored on your UPnP server.

If you should wish to make your media available for public access for any reason, contact your router vendor for details of how to set up and configure the router for this purpose.

You will need three things:

1. A UPnP AV compatible media server, such as:

a. an ACTIVY Media Center 570
b. a SCALEO or AMILO PC running Microsoft Windows Media Connect


2. A wireless or wired home network
3. UPnP AV compatible display client device, such as:

a. an ACTIVY Media Player 150
b. a SCALEO PC/AMILO notebook running a UPnP AV
    capable player application
