| | Microsoft Open |
Open is the current Microsoft license program oriented towards small and mid-sized companies. During the two-year term of such an agreement, which is concluded directly between Microsoft and the customer (meaning a legally independent company), the latter is entitled to reorder based on the pricing category used in the initial order. At the end of the two years, the customer retains the right to use the licenses purchased.
The launch of Open 6.0 on October 1, 2001 greatly simplified the Microsoft licensing model. Unlike previously, only a license, Software Assurance or a package with both are now available (as opposed to full versions and updates). The advantage relative to the Multi-Year Open scheme is that here, the purchase of enterprise products (e.g. Office, Windows, Core CAL) is not mandatory. This makes Open ideal for anyone requiring only Project, Visio or Server licenses, for example. |
